Studio Recording VS Location Recording
Hey folks, how is music doing for you ? It came to me that many people have misconceptions and thoughts when coming to talk about recording studios. Do you picture like the above mentioned when i mutter the term, ‘Recording Studio” to you?
Well, first, what is the purpose of a recording studio? To me personally, it’s nothing different from any room with microphones and gears lying around it it. Well, the reason recording studios are there is so that when you record or mix a song or sound, you’ll be able to hear that ‘REAL’ sound. Imagine recording your voice in a glass hall versus recording in an open field.
What is that? Yes, you’re right! It’ll sound different. Definitely! Different spaces gives you different sounds from the source.
Recording studios are thus set up to be able to record that ‘REAL’ sound which we refer as “Dry” sound, where we can add effects later on. However, does this dry sounds, sound at its optimal after loading effects into it?
To tell you the truth now, a recording studio is one of the worst place to create music! Some instruments will not, i repeat, will NOT sound natural and good in a room too dry. Also, being a dry room with no natural echo can sound tiring and we can all lose our inspiration and feel.
Sometimes, doing an on site location recording or outdoor recording can bring better result. We’re talking LIVE sound here. That’s gonna make sound more pleasant to listen to definitely. Instruments and voices need some space and air to breathe too. So which one would work for you next album or next short film?
